marino las baulas national park
This park is located within the Tamarindo Bay in the canton of Santa Cruz, specifically in the districts of Cabo Velas and Tamarindo.
Its main attractions are based on the spawning of the leatherback turtle (hence its name), its beaches of great beauty, its mangroves and the observation of flora and fauna. In this sector, around 117 species of trees and shrubs have been identified. 139 different species of birds, of which 55 are latitudinal migratory and 8 make seasonal migrations or movements within the country, 34% of these species need mangrove forests, 52% of these birds need forested areas.
It has an extension of 175 km2 that are divided into 7.7 in the terrestrial sector, 171.36 km2, or 12 nautical miles in the marine sector. 95% of its precipitation is concentrated in the months of May to November and 4.2% correspond to December to April.
This area was created in order to provide protection to the populations of leatherback turtles that come to nest on Grande, Ventanas and Langosta beaches. This is also a site of global importance due to the Estero de Tamarindo and its mangrove forest, as well as other smaller estuaries but of equal beauty such as the San Francisco and Ventanas estuaries.
