The Cahuita National Park was established with the purpose of protecting the most important coral reef in the country. It has an extension of 22,400 ha of territorial sea, 1,067.9 ha on land and 600 ha of coral reef.

The average temperature you will find is 27℃, there are no dry months and the relative humidity is 92%. The park is located within the tropical humid forest life zone. The forests are relatively tall, dense, and evergreen.

Among the species of flora that you can find are: the sangrillo, typical of marshy areas, the beach almond trees and the chapernos. In addition, coconuts and beach grapes are abundant on the beach.

In the park you can find reptiles such as the leatherback, the green and the hawksbill that are in danger of extinction. On the other hand, it is possible that you will find tree frogs, rain frogs, poisonous snakes such as velvet or tinsel, and snakes such as boas, which is why it is so important to walk carefully.

Cahuita protects, in addition to the terrestrial flora, fauna, its marine fauna and its beaches.
