This wonder of renewable energy was named a national park on June 5, 2019, its creation was made to commemorate World Environment Day.

Its full name is Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park, this tribute is paid because this character was one of the great promoters of the conservation of the country’s natural spaces and promoter of national parks.The declaration of a protected area as well as a national park is due to the natural resources that it preserves and that are potential for research and conservation.

The Miravalles volcano, is the highest in the Guanacaste Volcanic Range.

It has an altitude of 2,028 meters above sea level, it is known as a stratovolcano type (conical and high-altitude volcano) and it is currently inactive. It has an extension of 4,300 ha, and houses humid pluvial forests, dry tropical forest and premontane forest; It is home to a great variety of flora and fauna.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, insect repellent.
  • Use solarscreen.
  • Inside the park, both in the vehicular parking area, bathrooms and trails, you are not allowed to smoke.
  • Keep areas clean. Within the trails you will not find containers to deposit garbage. Stay within the trails, in case of any eventuality go to the officials of the area.
